ශ්‍රි ලංකාවට ආවේණික නව කෙතල විශේෂයක් ගාල්ල හියාරේ වනාන්තරයෙන් සොයාගැනීමට අප කණ්ඩායමට හැකිවෙනවා.මෙම නව විශේෂයත් සමග ශ්‍රි ලංකාවේ කෙතල (Lagenandra) ප්‍රමාණය 14 දක්වා ඉහල යන අතර ඉන් විශේෂ 13 ආවේණික වේ. සිදුකල කේෂත්ර කටයුතු හා ශාකාගාර නිදර්ශක අධ්යනය කිරීමෙදී මීට පෙර මෙම විශේෂය Aponogeton crispus (කෙකටිය විශේෂයක් ) ලෙස ද ඉන් පසුව Lagenadra koenigii ලෙසද හදුනාගෙන තිබුණි නමුත් අපගේ පර්ශේණයදී මෙය වෙනත් ශාක විශේෂයක් ලෙස හදුනා ගන්නා ලදී. මෙම විශේෂය Lagenandra limbusleviterapertae යන නාමයෙන් හා සිංහලෙන් හියාරේ කෙටල ලෙස හදුන්වනු ලැබේ. limbusleviterapertae ලෙස නම් කිරීම කරනු ලැබුවේ මෙහි ඇති ලාක්ෂණික රූප විද්යා ලක්ෂණයක් පදනම් කරගනිමින් ය. මෙම ලතින් නාමයෙහි අදහස වනුයේ මෙහි පුෂ්පයෙහි බද (limb) කුඩාවට විවෘත වීමයි. බද (limb): limbus ලෙස ද කුඩාවට විවෘත වීම leviterapertae යන අර්ථය ලතින් බසින් හැදින්වීමට යොදා ගැනේ.

New Endemic Lagenandra species discovered from Hiyare Forest Reserve, Galle, Sri Lanka. With this species increase the no species to 14 and 13 are endemic to the country. This species was previously identified as Aponogeton crispus and Lagenadra koenigii during field studies and herbarium specimen examinations and it was identified as a new species as a result of this research. This is species known as Lagenandra limbusleviterapertae and ‘Hiyare kethala’ (Sinhala) is used as a vernacular name. The species name is formed by a conjunction of the Latin wording for limb, limbus; slightly, leviter and open, aperta (apertae). Adopted here to highlight the distinctive feature of the spathe, the slightly opened limb.
